About
I’m a singles player from Spearwood, Perth, and I’m chasing a UTR of 3. This site tracks the climb: every rated match, what I’m working on, and where to follow along.

My story
Tennis has been around me my whole life. My dad has played since he was young, and my parents tried to get me into it when I was little. I was a stubborn kid and it didn’t stick. I regret that a bit now.
That changed about a year ago, after I moved to Spearwood. Mum and I started hitting at the local courts with cheap sports-store rackets. Then Dad joined in, then my uncle, and it was so much fun I wanted to get properly good.
The catch was finding people at my level. Then I found the UTR app, and it turns out Perth has heaps of rated events for players like me. Now I play most weekends, at new clubs, against new people.
Why UTR 3
01
UTR 3 is the rating I need to enter Friday night singles. Right now I can’t register.
02
At my current level most of my opponents are 10 to 15 years old. A higher rating gets me matches against people my own age.
03
He’s 50 and he’s exceptional. Last time we played, I didn’t win a single game. I’d like to change that.
And honestly, tennis gets more fun the better you get.
What I’m working on
Going well
Movement and fitness.
Net play, which keeps improving thanks to a long wingspan.
A kick serve and second serve I can mostly trust.
My two-handed backhand.
Working on
My flat serve. I double fault, so I serve safe and give away easy returns. At my height it should be a weapon.
Shot selection and tennis smarts, so I can play a proper all-court game.
Locally at the Coolbellup and Coogee courts, with my hitting partner or my family. At UTR events I’ve played at South Perth, Willetton and Blue Gum tennis clubs. Perth pennants is on the list once the rating’s there.
Demoing the Wilson Pro Staff 97 Classic with a white overgrip. If it keeps behaving, it’s the one I’m buying.
